Friends of the Fredericksburg Area Battlefields

CALENDAR OF EVENTS 2002

Friends of Fredericksburg Area Battlefields is a non-profit, tax-exempt Civil War preservation organization dedicated to providing education programs, advocacy, fundraising, and service projects for the preservation of both National Park Service lands and privately owned battlefield property in the Fredericksburg, Virginia area where numerous Civil War battles occurred. 

Thursday, February 21, 2002 - Friends of Fredericksburg Area Battlefields (FoFAB) Education Program at Federal Hill in Fredericksburg, VA. The education program is FREE and open to the public, taking place at 504 Hanover Street (near the intersection of Hanover and Prince Edward Streets) from 7-9 p.m. Our speaker, Mary Joyce Williams, currently runs the Federal Hill Foundation. Thursday, April 11 , 2002 - Friends of Fredericksburg Area Battlefields (FoFAB) Education Program at the Central Rappahannock Regional Library, located at 1201Caroline Street in Fredericksburg, VA. The education program is FREE and open to the public, taking place in Room 2 from 7-9 p.m. Our speaker, Heidi Reid, is a former guide at the Lincoln-Herndon Law Office and the Old State Capitol in Springfield, IL. Saturday, May 11, 2002 - A guided walking tour of the Federal attacks during the 2nd Battle of Fredericksburg will take place from 6:00- 7:30 p.m. Sponsored by Friends of Fredericksburg Area Battlefields, the tour will be given by Chris Kolakowski, NPS Civil War historian. The tour will visit various sites in Fredericksburg, which deal with the lesser known May 3, 1863 conflict known as 2nd Fredericksburg. The tour will begin at BB & Trust parking lot at 400 George Street in downtown Fredericksburg. (The tour is offered FREE by Friends of Fredericksburg Area Battlefields. However, since the tour will end on NPS property, NPS fees will apply.) No reservations required. Rain or shine. Saturday, May 25, 2002 - Luminaria in the National Cemetery, 8-11 p.m., located directly across from the Fredericksburg Battlefield Visitor Center on Lafayette Blvd. in Fredericksburg, VA. This is a FREE event. Area Scouts will light approximately 15,300 candles to visually represent each person who is buried in the cemetery. Shuttle buses will help transport people to the site. Friends of Fredericksburg Area Battlefields are raising the funds to pay for this event. Tax deductible contributions may be sent to FoFAB, 13100 Wilderness Park Drive, Spotsylvania, VA 22553-8220. Please specify that the donation is for the Luminaria. For more information about the event, call the National Park Service at 540-373-6122. Rain date is Sunday, May 26, 2002.

Thursday, June 13, 2002 - Friends of Fredericksburg Area Battlefields (FoFAB) Education Program at the Central Rappahannock Regional Library, located at 1201Caroline Street in Fredericksburg, VA. The education program is FREE and open to the public, taking place in Room 2 from 7- 9 p.m. Elsa Lohman, NPS Civil War historian, will speak about the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). Saturday, June 15, 2002 - A guided walking tour of Kershaw's brigade at Fredericksburg will take place from 7:00- 8:30 p.m. Sponsored by Friends of Fredericksburg Area Battlefields, the tour will be given by Mac Wyckoff, NPS Civil War historian. The tour will visit the Sunken Road and Marye Heights and will begin at the Fredericksburg Battlefield Visitor's Center. (The tour is offered FREE by Friends of Fredericksburg Area Battlefields. However, since the tour will take place on NPS property, NPS fees will apply.) No reservations required. Rain or shine.
