Summer Classic Horse Show Daily Report by Carol Dean-Porter

Today was the Grand Finale of the 2000 Summer Classic Horse Show.

The Grand Prix field featured the $1500 Marshall & Sterling Children's/Adult Jumper Classic, the $1500 Time Warner Low Junior/AO Classic, the $25,000 Waterfront Hilton Grand Prix and the $10,000 McKenna Porsche High Jump.

The High Jump was won by North American high jump record holder Will Simpson aboard McGee. He cleared 6'6" for the win. He attempted the California State record of 7'3" and knocked the jump down. Had he made it, the jump was worth a Porsche Cabriolet and $25,000 in cash.

Veteran Grand Prix team Richard Spooner and Kirk won the $25,000 Waterfront Hilton Grand Prix. Richard has won this class three years in a row now!

The hunter rings concluded with a $1000 Junior/AO Hunter classic, $1000 Marshall & Sterling Adult classic, $1000 Marshall & Sterling Children's classic and a Pony hunter classic.

This show was a huge success with the spectators, exhibitors and horses alike. All exhibitors were presented with gifts of horse show logo tee shirts and posters.

The show ran smoothly throughout the five days and Technical Coordinator Tommy Gallegher is already planning a few schedule changes to permit all exhibitors time to take part in the special events and classes.

Another nice touch offered by this show and seldom seen was the addition of cheerful parking attendants, who found every exhibitor and horse trailer a spot to park with easy access. This gesture was very much appreciated by all the exhibitors.
