Show Jumping World Cup Finals
Daily Report by Carol Dean-Porter

Saturday's Performance -April 22, 2000

Today was the rest day for the World Cup horses and the main event was the $25,000 Las Vegas Grand Prix. This class was open to the horses who are not qualified for the final phase of the World Cup, and also some horses and riders who did not Qualify for the finals but received an invitation based on having earned 25 points or more in World Cup qualifying classes. The arena was a sold-out performance and was exciting from start to finish.

Today's performance included a spectacular display by Leon Adams and his paint horse Cherokee Smoke who jumps ONTO the bed of a pick-up truck, through a ring of fire!

Jerry Wayne Olson and his buffalo Chief were the color bearers for the opening ceremony and later demonstrated a performance which includes climbing a ramp to the top of a horse trailer!

Debbie McDonald and her Pan American Games gold medal winning dressage horse Brentina performed a wonderful musical ride.

Six Pro Rodeo Association barrel racers teamed up with World Cup riders to race against the clock around a clover leaf pattern of barrels. First the girls rode the horses and received their times. Then the World Cup riders mounted their team mate's horse and tried the course. The scores were added together to determine a team total.

Here are the times for each member of the team:

Mary Kennon/17.40 + Rodrigo Pessoa/26.76
Leslie Schur/17.37 + Mario Deslaurier/18.14
Lori Stourd/22.16 + Leslie Howard/19.55
